General
What should I do if my MOBIB card does not work?
If your personal MOBIB or MOBIB Basic card does not work, please go to one of our sales outlets “BOOTIK” or “KIOSK” as soon as possible. In case of a technical failure (no exterior damage) of the MOBIB card during the first 5 years of its use, STIB-MIVB will replace your card at no cost. The content of the old card will be transferred to the new card. If your personal MOBIB card (named card) is damaged due to an incorrect use or due to negligence, you will only be able to replace it in a BOOTIK. In that case, STIB-MIVB delivers a duplicate at your own cost (based on the applicable fares at that date).
What should I do if I lose my MOBIB card or if it is stolen?
If your MOBIB is a named card, please go to a BOOTIK with your ID as soon as possible, in order to ask for a duplicate (cost: €10). The content of the old card will be transferred to the new card. You can also ask for a duplicate online on MyBootik.
No duplicates are delivered in case of loss or theft of an (anonymous) MOBIB Basic card.
How can I know the balance of my MOBIB card?
There are three ways to check the balance of your MOBIB card or the expiry date of your season ticket:
- Using the GO vending machines: Place the card on the holder of the machine. Your card balance will appear on the screen. If several transport tickets have been loaded on your card, you will see the balance for each transport ticket.
- Using the MOBIB validating machines: Press the “Info” button on the validating machine. You will hear a series of beeps. Hold your MOBIB card in front of the machine, where the |o| sign is located. Your card balance will appear on the screen. When you validate a transport ticket on a MOBIB validating machine, the balance of this particular transport ticket will also be shown.
- Using our online tool: Log on to MyBOOTIK. Your season ticket details will be shown.
How can I get a special fare?
The offered fares depend on your profile. We create your profile based on your age, submitted certificates and known family composition. That way, you will always be offered the fare that suits you most. If your profile changes and you are entitled to:
- A school season ticket: upload your school certificate on school.stib.be or bring it to a BOOTIK. If your family composition changes, please load a new certificate on school.stib.be or bring it to a BOOTIK (do not forget your ID).
- A PRRB season ticket: use your eID and a card reader to edit your profile online or go to a BOOTIK (do not forget your ID).
Can I print a receipt confirmation upon reloading?
Yes, you can. If you reload your MOBIB card at a GO or in a BOOTIK or KIOSK, you can always ask for a payment and receipt confirmation. When reloading online, you can also ask for a payment confirmation on MyBOOTIK.
How long is a ticket valid?

Validate with MOBIB
What is a MOBIB validating machine?
Validating machines are the devices on which you have to validate each journey. The validating machines for MOBIB cards are red. They also allow you to check the remaining balance and the validity of your transport tickets on your MOBIB card. They are located at the entry of each metro station, at the gates and on each bus and tram.
Next to the MOBIB validating machine you can find a grey/blue validating machine for your contactless payments with your contactless bank card, smartphone or smartwatch.
What is a connection?
For STIB-MIVB, a connection is a change of line / vehicle within the hour of the first validation. This means that no new journey will be charged when you validate within this hour. As soon as the hour has passed, each new validation is considered as a new journey.
Why should I validate my MOBIB card every time?
If you do not validate your card, your transport ticket is considered invalid and you could get an administrative fine. By validating your card, you avoid getting a fine, but you also help us collect reliable data about the passengers flows, without this data being linked to your identity. That way, we can adapt our offer and improve the timetables and connections, use bigger vehicles where it is necessary, etc.
How should I validate my MOBIB card?
Very simply actually: hold your card in front of the validating machine. Your card has been validated when you hear a beep, a “√” appears on the screen and a green indicator lights up. > > Listen to the validation beep
If your card has not been validated, a symbol “no entry” or a cross on a red background appears on the screen and a red indicator lights up. > Listen to the non-validation beep
When connecting, hold your card in front of the validating machine again. The word “Connection” appears on the screen. > Listen to the connection beep
When the validity of your transport ticket almost comes to an end, the validating machine will emit a different beeping sound. Moreover, the green indicator will remain on for longer. The number of remaining days or journeys on the transport ticket will also appear on the screen.
> Listen to the “warning” beep
How can I validate for several people?
Hold your card in front of the validating machine to validate your own journey. Next, validate your card again for each person whom you are travelling with. This is only possible provided that you have extra fares on your card and that you stay together during the whole journey. Repeat this validating process at each connection and for each person.
Which ticket is validated first?
When the user presents his/her MOBIB (Basic) card at a STIB validator and the card contains several valid tickets, the validator will automatically select and validate the ticket in the following order of priority :
- In case of connection, the transport ticket already validated but still within its validity period
- Brupass XL or Brupass season ticket (if both are present on the same card, the season ticket with the earliest validity end date will be validated first)
- STIB season ticket
- Brupass 1 day
- STIB 75 Journeys
- Brupass XL 10 Journeys
- Brupass XL 1 Journey
- Brupass 10 Journeys
- Brupass 1 Journey
For journeys departing from Zaventem (Brussels Airport) to Brussels, when the user presents his/her MOBIB card at a STIB validator, the validator will automatically select and validate the ticket in the following order of priority :
- STIB-MIVB + Airport line season ticket
- Go2City 10 Journeys
- Go2City 1 Journey
Example : If you have a BRUPASS XL 10 journeys and BRUPASS 10 journeys on your card, BRUPASS XL 10 journeys will be validated first.
If the user immediately validates again, STIB considers this to be a trip for an additional traveler and an extra trip will be validated.
What should I do if the validating machine does not work?
If a validating machine does not work, please find another one. All vehicles and stations are equipped with several MOBIB validating machines.

I have a MOBIB card issued by another operator (e.g. SNCB-NMBS, De Lijn, TEC) and I cannot buy a transport ticket online. How come?
